    Ultra Sun Child [2013]

A Child Shining with a Wish

Ultra Sun Child (2013) is a gigantic lustrous sculpture based on the prototype of Sun Child (2011-2012), and is covered by stainless steel that reflects light and the surrounding scenery. The statue was conceptualized as a statue of the God of light, and an evolved version of Sun Child, which has traveled around the world listening to people’s wishes. Not only its hands but its entire body shines in Ultra Sun Child.

In Aichi Triennale 2013, a wedding ceremony was held at Aichi Prefectural Art Museum as an installation Wedding Ceremony of the Sun (2013), and the bust was first created as the statue of God for this installation. Sun Child was initially scheduled to be installed asa statue in the “Temple of the Sun,” a project that involved building a wedding venue in Kumamoto. Sun Child was supposed to be in the museum-style wedding venue, which was to exhibit Yanobe’s various works that have actual functions. However, the project could not be realized due to a tremendous budget deficit, and parts of the project were realized in Aichi Triennale 2013.

In the installation at the museum, a wedding ceremony was actually held in an attempt to transform the museum space into a wedding venue. In modern civilization, philosophy, science, and art have developed by differentiating themselves from God as well as the temple and the church. Simultaneously, it has triggered many mistakes, including nuclear power plant accidents. Wedding Ceremony of the Sun intended to go back to the origin of creation, so that it can reunite the differentiated relationships to make them “married” and “restored” under “love.”

Ultra Sun Child has declared the revival of the spirit of human beings, who overcome tragic disasters and accidents and cultivate culture via new “marriages.” After the exhibition, the entire body of Ultra Sun Child was created and permanently installed at entertainment facility sites in Aichi Prefecture, including an art gallery.
